New Barrow Island Papers

Barrow Island’s unique environment is the subject of ongoing studies and new discoveries.

Phoenix has contributed two taxonomic papers (on wolf spiders and slaters) to the recently published book on the terrestrial invertebrate fauna of Barrow Island. This book is a Supplement volume of the Records of the Western Australian Museum and was edited by Nihara Gunawardene, Christopher Taylor and Jonathan Majer (all Curtin University of Technology) and Mark Harvey (WA Museum), funded by Chevron Australia:

  • Framenau, V. W. & Leung, A. E. 2013. Costacosa, a new genus of wolf spider (Araneae, Lycosidae) from coastal north-west Western Australia. Records of the Western Australian Museum Supplement 83: 173–184.
  • Judd, S. & Perina, G. 2013. An illustrated key to the morphospecies of terrestrial isopods (Crustacea: Oniscidea) of Barrow Island, Western Australia. Records of the Western Australian Museum Supplement 83: 185–207.
